NAVJIVINI INSTITUTE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH

Established in 1981, the Navjivini School of Special Education has a long-standing history of supporting children with intellectual disabilities and serving the community. Operating under the guidance of the National Trust, the institution has pioneered numerous programs tailored for parents and professionals alike.

Key Milestones & Academic Offerings

• Diploma Program (Since 2007): To address the growing need for specialized manpower, the institute launched a two-year Diploma in Education – Special Education (Mental Retardation), now known as D.Ed. SE (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities formerly Mental Retardation). This program is officially recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi.
• NISER Expansion (Since 2011): Building on its success, the institution established the 

Navjivini Institute of Special Education and Research (NISER) to further expand its research and educational scope.

Affiliations and Recognitions

NISER operates under strict adherence to the guidelines set by the Punjab Government and Punjabi University, Patiala, holding key credentials:

• Affiliation: Affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala.
• Approvals: Recognized by the Department of Social Security, Women & Child Development, Punjab, and approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi starting from the 2011–2012 academic session.
• Current Programs: Successfully running the B.Ed. SE (ID) (Bachelor of Education in Special Education – Intellectual Disability) course since 2011.
